Travis Engen
President and CEO, Alcan Inc.

Travis Engen is President and Chief Executive Officer of Alcan Inc., a US$13 billion organization headquartered in Montreal, Canada. Mr. Engen assumed this position on March 12, 2001. He has served on the Board of Alcan since 1996 and previous to becoming Alcan’s CEO had been Chairman of the Personnel Committee as well as a member of the Corporate Governance Committee.

Mr. Engen began his career in 1965 with Bell Aerospace advancing to be Director of electronics Marketing. In 1976, he was named Director of Marketing for Republic Electronic Industries Corp., a position he held until 1979. He then became Director of Government Avionics at the Bendix Avionics Division. In 1983, Mr. Engen was appointed Vice-President and General Manager of Bendix's General Aviation Avionics Division.

He joined ITT Industries in 1985 as President and General Manager, ITT Avionics. In 1987, he was selected as the President and CEO of ITT Defence. In 1991, he was elected as Executive Vice-President of ITT Corporation, assuming responsibility for the companies that now comprise ITT Industries. In subsequent years, his responsibilities grew to include ITT's forest products, insurance, communications and information services divisions. In 1995, he was selected as ITT Industries' First Chief Executive.

Mr. Engen serves on the Boards of the Lyondell Chemical Company, Canadian Council of Chief Executives, and the Defense Business Practice Implementation Board.

Mr. Engen is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics. He was born in California, in 1944, and has been married since 1967. He has one daughter and enjoys vintage car racing.
