Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The
General Studies Unit in the Faculty of Engineering
and Computer Science at Concordia
University (Montreal) invites applications
for a tenure-track faculty position in the
area of Engineering Professionalism and
Ethics. Applicants must possess a Ph.D.
(a degree in engineering is also an asset).
The successful candidate is expected to
develop a strong externally funded research
program and develop relevant courses in
their field of study. Also, strong commitments
to the supervision of graduate students
and to excellence in teaching at both the
graduate and undergraduate levels are expected.

position is filled. Only short listed candidates
will be notified. Preference will be given
to candidates who have proven skills in
teaching and research. Knowledge of French
is considered to be an asset. Subject to
budgetary approval, we anticipate
filling this position by June 1, 2009,
at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor

The General Studies Unit
is a new, interdisciplinary department within
the Faculty of Engineering and Computer
Science that focuses on the varied relationships
between technology and society and is responsible
for teaching courses to engineers in: communication,
ethics, social shaping of technology, critical
thinking, economic and social impacts of
technology, and project management. We seek
a scholar committed to any one of the following
research interests: technical communication,
risk communication, sustainability, economic
valuation or cost-benefit analysis, the
social and ethical dimensions of information
technologies, or other areas of interest
in Science, Technology and Society or Technology
Policy. In addition, we seek someone capable
of teaching courses in: professionalism
and ethics, technical communication, impact
of technology on society, engineering management
principles or engineering economics.

Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The
Graduate Program in Systems Engineering
at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL)
is seeking candidates for one or more tenure-track

offers MSc and PhD degrees in systems engineering
with area of concentration in operations
research.
The
applicants must have a PhD in operations
research, management science, industrial/systems
engineering, applied probability, computer
science, or a related area. The search is
open to all areas of specialization. Preference
will be given to candidates with a strong
background in one or more of the following
research areas: heuristic/metaheuristic
search, stochastic modeling (queueing, simulation,
applied probability), supply chain management,
revenue management, large-scale system optimization,
or stochastic optimization; or the following
application areas: natural resources (electricity,
natural gas, oil, water systems), logistics
and transportation, service industry, or
manufacturing systems.
Although
fluency in Spanish is preferred, English

of graduate students, and high-quality research.

for two tenure-track or tenured faculty

our existing interdisciplinary strengths
with scholars whose research spans across
two or more of these program areas. Applicants
should have an outstanding academic record,

themes of research in each area are: 1).

performance measurement and quality.

to a tenure-track or tenured position requires
the Ph.D. degree or credentials equivalent

in industrial engineering or a related field,

University
of Missouri – Rolla is seeking

in the department of Engineering
Management and Systems Engineering.
UMR’s Systems Engineering Graduate
Program is ranked in the top ten percent
among similar programs in the world. This
21st century Systems Engineering Graduate
program builds on sound engineering undergraduate
education and experience, and maintains
engineering specialization diversity in
its graduates at both the MS and PhD level.
The diversity of specializations is attained
through the teaching and research contributions
of core and contributing faculty from a
number of campus graduate programs including
Computer Engineering, Computer Science,
Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Management,
and Systems Engineering and through a matrix
organization administered by a program director.
The
Systems Engineering Graduate program was
developed in 1999 to provide off-campus
Systems Engineering graduate education to
Boeing Engineers and their suppliers, worldwide.
Since that time, the graduate program has
grown exponentially reaching 390 students
both on and off campus from over 20 companies
around the world. Approximately 220 students
have graduated with a MS degree in Systems
Engineering. The first Ph.D. degree was
granted in Summer 2007.
Successful
candidates must have a BS in engineering
or hard science and a PhD in Systems Engineering,
Industrial Engineering or a related field
engaged in Systems Engineering research.
Industrial experience is desired but not
required. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding
potential for scholarly research and professional
development. The applicant must have the
ability to teach graduate courses in Systems
Engineering topics, advise graduate students
and direct Ph.D dissertations and MS thesis
and initiate an externally funded research
program in Systems Engineering. Current
research areas include: Network Centric
Systems, Systems Architecting, Systems Engineering
Process and Design, Distributed Modeling,
Infrastructure Systems and Structures, Network
Centric Manufacturing and Control, Risk
Modeling and Assessment, Modeling and Simulation,
and Computational Intelligence.

Job
description
The innovation studies group focuses on
the analysis and governance of innovation
system dynamics.
Our
group is looking for an innovation or technology
dynamics scholar in the field of Innovation
and Sustainability. The ideal candidate
has a technological or natural science background
and is very well at ease in social science.
In case of a social science background a
proven interest in technology is a prerequisite.
The research and teaching of this associate
professor will focus on understanding processes
of sustainable socio-technical change. The
candidate should be comfortable in analyzing
both technological characteristics of innovations
and be able to link those characteristics
to the innovation system in which innovations
are developed and diffused. We are especially
interested in scholars that have experience
in the Energy and/or Transport domain. Research
traditions that are considered interesting
are historical analysis of technological
change, current implementation problems
regarding innovative (sustainable) technology,
(Constructive) Technology Assessment, and
modeling or simulation of (sustainable)
technological change.
The
candidate should be a strong research leader
with an excellent track record in terms
of research acquisition and a very good
international reputation. The candidate
should be able to cooperate well with the
different disciplines in the Copernicus
Institute in order to fulfill a bridging
role between the different research groups.
Finally the candidate should have a strong
background in teaching and curriculum development
since part of the job description will be
the coordination of the energy and materials
track of the SIM program.

per month.

salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus

description
The innovation studies group focuses on

The research program of the innovation studies
group concentrates on the analysis and governance
of innovation system dynamics and the development
of intervention strategies in innovation

who have experience in research into the
relation between firms / entrepreneurs and
their external (institutional) environment.
A strong background in formal quantitative
or qualitative research methods is a prerequisite
since research methods are considered very
important in the educational program Science
and Innovation Management. We especially
welcome candidates who have research or
teaching experience in the following empirical
domains: sustainable innovation, innovation
in the energy sector and innovation in the
mobility sector. Candidates who have experience
in other empirical domains should at least
have affinity with technology and sustainable
development.

backgrounds are (evolutionary) economics,
business school or a combined natural science
and social science background.
