The School of Engineering has announced that
Professor Yossi Sheffi has been named the Elisha Gray II
Professor, effective July 1, 2009. Sheffi is an expert in
systems optimization, risk analysis, and supply chain management.
His research interests include transportation and logistics
systems analysis, decision support systems for network optimizations
with application to logistics management, carrier operations,
and supply chain management.
The Elisha Gray II Professorship was established
in 1986 by MIT Sloan graduate Elisha “Bud” Gray
II (1928) with funds he donated for his fiftieth class reunion.
Gray was former chairman of the Whirlpool Corporation, beginning
in 1949. His 39-year career at Whirlpool included serving
13 years as chairman of the board, leading the introduction
and expansion of the Whirlpool brand name, and directing
the corporation’s evolution into a full-line manufacturer
of major home appliances.
