Prof. Mindell on NPR's Talk of the Nation July 3 and Discovery Channel July 7

July 2, 2008

David A. Mindell, Professor of Engineering Systems, Frances and David Dibner Professor of the History of Engineering and Manufacturing, and Director of the Program in Science, Technology and Society, will appear on NPR's Talk of the Nation on Thursday, July 3, 2008, to talk about his recently published book, Digital Apollo: Human and Machine in Spaceflight. The program airs in Boston on WBUR (90.9 FM) from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

In addition, segment two in the Discovery Channel's upcoming (July
6-11, 2008) 10-part Space Week 2008 series on "Moon Machines" is based largely on Professor Mindell's book. The hour-long episode, "The Navigation," is scheduled to air from 9:00-10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on July 7, 2008.

In Digital Apollo, Professor Mindell examines how human pilots and
automated systems worked together to achieve a lunar landing, and
takes a novel look at the relationship between humans and automated
space systems.
