SAÏD BUSINESS SCHOOL, BT Centre for Major Programme Management

The BT Centre for Major Programme Management is a multidisciplinary research centre of Oxford University based at Saïd Business School with close links to the faculties in engineering, economics, planning, computer science, policy, geography and law. The Research Fellows should undertake independent and joint research in a relevant aspect of major programme management. Research output should primarily be aimed at leading peer-reviewed academic journals. The researcher will contribute data to the database on performance in major programmes, take responsibility for planning aspects of the research project(s), setting deadlines and monitoring progress against milestones. The Fellows will be expected to contribute to developing the centre’s public profile.

The researcher should have a completed MSc or work completed towards a PhD in an area related to major programme management, for example, management, engineering, economics, planning, computer science, policy, geography or law, ability to undertake independent international quality research and to communicate research findings effectively, and willingness to contribute to the administration and to represent the centre at external events.

These are two fixed-term positions for two years.

HIRING IN THE AREA OF ENERGY

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Candidates should have an interest and expertise in the general area of energy, with specific interest in solar energy, biofuels, or energy storage. The position requires a Ph.D. degree in mechanical, chemical, or materials science and engineering, or a related field. The candidate should possess strong experimental and/or theoretical/computational expertise with a desire to build a world class research and education program. The successful candidate will interact with faculty in the Mechanical Engineering Department, and will be expected to collaborate with faculty in other departments with interests in renewable/sustainable energy areas. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, develop a strongly funded research program, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.

two postdocs positions

As part of developing research capacity at Oxford University's BT Centre for Major Programme Management, they looking to hire two postdocs for 2-3 years each. Candidates should have:

  1. A doctorate in major programme/megaproject management, or closely related field, or:
  2. A doctorate in theory that is particularly pertinent to major programme management and willingness to apply the theory in this field. The Centre is multi-disciplinary and theories may be drawn from multiple disciplines, including, but not limited to, engineering, economics, planning, policy, computer science, management, finance, and law.
  3. A strong publication record.

Positions of Professors and Associate Professors

The Ecole Polytechnique in Paris (France) invites applications for several positions of professors, or associate professors in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, mechanics, physics, economics, humanities and social science, foreign language and culture. Candidates are expected to be successful practitioners or researchers in their field, internationally oriented, with strong interest in teaching. There is no restriction on the age or nationality of the candidates. A working knowledge of French is recommended, but not mandatory, since some classes can be taught in English. Candidates for full time positions are expected to carry on their research activity at Ecole Polytechnique, and to direct Ph.D/advanced research in their field. The full time positions become tenured positions after a two year probatory period. The Ecole Polytechnique offers start-up packages, and excellent research and teaching facilities. For a full time position, the average teaching load is approximatively 3h per week. Part time resident positions are open for people who will do their research in a laboratory of the Ecole research center.

We seek an outstanding individual working in emerging areas of industrial engineering including but not limited to:

The successful candidate may have approached these emerging fields from within traditional degree programs such as operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, economics and behavioral science, as well as the various branches of engineering. Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The General Studies Unit in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at Concordia University (Montreal) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Engineering Professionalism and Ethics. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. (a degree in engineering is also an asset). The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong externally funded research program and develop relevant courses in their field of study. Also, strong commitments to the supervision of graduate students and to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels are expected. Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The Graduate Program in Systems Engineering at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) is seeking candidates for one or more tenure-track faculty positions. The program (http://yalma.fime.uanl.mx/~pisis) offers MSc and PhD degrees in systems engineering with area of concentration in operations research.

The applicants must have a PhD in operations research, management science, industrial/systems engineering, applied probability, computer science, or a related area. The search is open to all areas of specialization. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following research areas: heuristic/metaheuristic search, stochastic modeling (queueing, simulation, applied probability), supply chain management, revenue management, large-scale system optimization, or stochastic optimization; or the following application areas: natural resources (electricity, natural gas, oil, water systems), logistics and transportation, service industry, or manufacturing systems.

Although fluency in Spanish is preferred, English is an accepted alternate choice. Successful applicants may start the appointment on January 2009 or on a later date to be agreed upon.

Duties include mainly teaching one course per semester at the graduate level, thesis supervision of graduate students, and high-quality research. The program offers a wide opportunity for research, industrial R+D or consulting activities. The salary and benefits package is very attractive for Mexican standards.

UANL (http://www.uanl.mx) is located in San Nicolas de los Garza, in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, the third largest city in Mexico, with a population of over 3 million, a high concentration of artistic, cultural, and sporting events, a growing industry in many of its facets, and a two-hour drive from the border with Texas.
