Master of Science Degree in Engineering Systems
Courses

Current MIT graduate students have
the option of simultaneously
registering for two master's degrees. These degrees
must be in substantially different programs, where there is a
strong intellectual connection. The student must fulfill the following
requirements:
- be admitted to both programs.
- meet the requirements of both programs.
- complete a coherent program of at least 66 graduate
units of credit for each program (a total of at least 132 credits).
In addition, for each program of 66 credits, 42 units or more
must be H-level. If a particular program's requirements are
more stringent, these requirements must also be met. See Degree
Requirements for ESD's requirements.
- submit a single thesis that is approved
by the faculty of both programs.
To apply for admission to the Master of
Science degree in Engineering Systems as a dual degree submit the following materials
to ESD's Academic Office (E40-249) at least two regular (Fall/Spring) terms prior to graduating:
- A graduate petition to get both degrees simultaneously
and the dual degree supplement
- An application for dual SM in Engineering Systems
- A Statement of Objectives that indicates the area of interest in engineering systems,
points to the intellectual connection with your primary department, describes your thesis
topic and (planned) research, and mentions your general career objectives.
- An official MIT transcript
- Transcripts from all other universities, colleges, institutes of higher-learning, etc., you have attended.
Copies of originals on file with another MIT department, sent directly from that department to ESD's Academic Office (E40-249), are acceptable.
- An evaluation or letter of recommendation from your departmental thesis advisor that additionally indicates her/his current willingness to advise your dual degree
- A letter from your proposed ESD thesis advisor indicating her/his current willingness to advise your dual degree
- A curriculum vitae or resume
