Deborah
Nightingale, Professor of the Practice in Aeronautics and
Astronautics and Engineering Systems and LAI Co-Director,
was the lead speaker at a two-day Lean symposium, sponsored
by the Irish
Centre for Business Excellence. The event was entitled
“A
Strategy for Sustainable Growth and Prosperity in a Fiercely
Competitive Global Market.”
Over
100 executives from throughout Ireland attended the symposium,
which was held at the Dromoland Castle, in Newmarket on
Fergus, County Clare on March 7-8, 2007.
Professor
Nightingale’s talk was entitled: “Strategic
Approach to Lean Enterprise Transformation” in which
she highlighted LAI’s multi-view approach to “future
state architecting.”
“Most
attendees admitted their organizations were at the ‘kaizen
event’ stage but they really resonated with a strategic
approach combined with strong leadership,” said Nightingale.
Other
aspects of the talk that drew attention included the Transition
To lean Roadmap and Enterprise Value Stream Mapping and
Analysis, both of which were developed through LAI research
at MIT.
Other
attendees of note at the symposium included: Ken Kreafle,
GM Vehicle Production Engineering and Manufacturing, Toyota
of America, Craig Habakangas, Senior Manager Lean Enterprise
Transformation Office, Boeing Commercial Airlines, and Keith
Cocksey, Asst Director, Defense Logistics, of RAF Logistics
Support.
