The
Board of Directors of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. recently
elected Daniel E. Whitney an IEEE Fellow for contributions
to robot control, robot assembly, and fundamentals of mechanical
assembly. Whitney is a Senior Lecturer in MIT's Engineering
Systems Division (ESD) and a Senior Research Scientist in
ESD's Center for Technology, Policy, and Industrial Development.
The
IEEE Fellow is one of the most prestigious honors of the
IEEE, and is bestowed upon a very limited number of Senior
Members who have made outstanding contributions to the electrical
and information technologies and sciences for the benefit
of humanity and the profession. The number of IEEE Fellows
elected in a year is no more than one-tenth percent of the
total IEEE voting membership. This year 260 new Fellows
were elected.
