A
Read on Carbon Labels
What have computer monitors
and fat-free foods got in common?
They are both covered by product
labeling systems that help consumers
make informed decisions when
buying these items. The MIT
Center for Transportation &
Logistics (MIT-CTL) Carbon-Efficient
Supply Chain initiative has
looked at some well-established
systems for clues as to how
a carbon label - that tells
consumers about the carbon footprints
of products - might work. Here
are some recommendations.

Intel
Rewires SC Career Paths
Supply chain has moved up the totem
pole of corporate disciplines over
recent years, but career paths in
the profession are not always as upwardly
mobile. Intel Corporation has devised
a new career ladder that gives supply
chain professionals a clearer route
to the top of their chosen field.
Intel's Jim Kellso will explain the
company's rationale and the implications
for the profession at the MIT-CTL
Crossroads 2008: The Next Ten Years
conference in Cambridge, MA, March
27, 2008.
Lining
Up New Strategic Optoins
The journey to achieving a goal can
be just as important as the goal itself.
Aligning supply chain strategy with
corporate strategy is an important
goal, but along the way managers can
learn a great deal about the organization's
competitive strengths and weaknesses.
MIT-CTL's Strategy Alignment workshop
is helping managers learn these lessons.
Demanding
Issues
The difference between short- and
long-term planning horizons, and what
elevates a demand fluctuation to a
full-blown exercise in exception management,
are just two of the demand management
issues executives discussed at a recent
MIT-CTL retreat.
