A New Award

ITS MA Establishes Joseph M. Sussman Leadership Award

The Intelligent Transportation Society of Massachusetts (ITS MA), the state chapter of ITS America, recently established the Joseph M. Sussman Leadership Award. The annual award was created in recognition of Professor Sussman's contributions to, and leadership in, the Massachusetts and national Intelligent Transportation Systems field. It is intended to honor sustained leadership performance in this arena.

This year's recipient is Elizabeth Councilman, a senior administrator at UMASS Amherst, who served as president of ITS MA and provided strong leadership during its early years.

Professor Sussman helped to found ITS MA seven years ago and served on its board until last year. He also served on the board of ITS America for six years. He is JR East Professor Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems.
