ESD Visiting Scholar David Hartzband

Speaks on Capital Hill about Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics

David Hartzband, Visiting Scholar, ESD, spoke at the Capital Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics on the use of telemedicine capabilities to enhance technology adoption at community health centers. Representative David Wu (D-OR) was present at the Steering Committee meeting. Representative Wu is the Chair of the House Subcommittee on Technology. He sponsored a bill last year to fund training of healthcare information professionals through the National Science Foundation which passed in the House but has not come up in the Senate. This is the only Healthcare Information Technology bill to have passed in either the House or the Senate in the 110th Congress.

Dr. Hartzband discussed his recent work on GDP-based productivity in ambulatory healthcare with Representative Wu who was interested in the work's implications for technology adoption in healthcare organizations (ESD Working Papers, ESD 2008-11 and ESD 2008-14, in press for Health Affairs).
