The
AIAA Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
(MDO) Technical Committee (TC) recently
presented Olivier de Weck, Associate
Professor of Astronautics and Aeronautics
and Engineering Systems, an outstanding
service award for his contributions
to the AIAA TC from 2002-2006.
The
citation noted that he served as technical
chair for the first AIAA MDO Specialist
Conference in 2005, and as General
Chair in 2006. During this time he
was able to successfully co-organize
and run both conferences and increase
participation by 58% over previous
MDO participation at the Structures,
Structural Dynamics and Materials
conference.
The
citation also noted de Weck’s
service as a reviewer, session chair,
and co-chair for special sessions
and panels at the Multidisciplinary
Analysis and Optimization Conference
(MAO 2004). He has promoted MDO as
a review editor of the journal “Structural
and Multidisciplinary Optimization”,
by his teaching activities at MIT
with emphasis on graduate courses,
infusing MDO in undergraduate design
and capstone courses and by making
these teaching materials available
to a broad community via OpenCourseWare.
