Understanding Change

  • Why do products change in your company?
  • What are the main drivers for change?
  • Is the role of change management recognized as a key factor in your development process?
  • Is it appropriate?
  • Do people in your organization understand the implications of change in terms of the products, processes and organizational impact? How can this be improved?
  • Does your organization systematically analyze configuration management/change databases from ongoing or completed projects to better understand change initiation and propagation? If yes, how is it done, do you follow any standards like DOD 5015.2 (insert others here)? If no, why not?

Planning for Change

  • How do you plan your change processes?
  • What are the triggers? When do you start? Who does it?
  • How are change processes integrated in regards to other processes/projects?
  • What are your selection criteria for change alternatives? What are the assessment methods?
  • How do you classify and predict the magnitude and effort/cost associated with either individual changes or ensembles of changes?

Exploiting Change

  • Do you design for change? If yes, how? How should it be done?
  • What are the opportunities offered by change?
  • How can the structure of the product/process/organization be influenced to minimize negative effects and maximize opportunities of change?
  • Do you design your products or services explicitly with "real options" to enable future changes? If so, how do you identify and value such options?
  • Who in your organization is interested in change and are there significant differences in their needs and approaches?
