Effective Product Platform Development

This talk will summarize what all I have done at CIPD since I first came here in 2001. I will give an overview of the methods I developed for effective product platform development. In general, platform and product architecture development methods are either qualitative check lists or optimize a platform based on 1-2 criteria. My work will try to provide the design engineers with better support for platform architecture design in terms of more rigorous methods. Further, many methods give a suggestion for a platform architecture, but the final architecture and its impact to different stakeholders is not evaluated. The methods I will talk about include e.g. component commonality analysis and multi-criteria platform evaluation.
