CIPD Special Seminar Presentation

What Differs between System Innovation and Component Innovation – and Does it Matter?

By Professor Chris Magee, CIPD Director

Abstract:
Chris MageeInnovation studies have begun to establish a deeper level of understanding of invention and innovation which are the key economic and cultural development drivers. Some of this work is briefly reviewed before the concept of system innovation -innovation on a higher system level technically and socially- is introduced. Past related work -not as extensive as that for component innovation- is then examined. Examples of system innovation (two in more depth) and the differences between system and component innovation will be emphasized. In addition, possible research approaches to answer some key questions will be presented.
